Good morning,
Our King is coming!
It finally happened this week. After months and months of planning and preparation the Queen of England and the rest of the royal family were able to celebrate the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. People came from all over the world and millions more were able to watch on television as the couple made their way into the church to become husband and wife. The media has done their best to tell the world about all the wonderful details of this new couple who could possibly someday be the king and queen of their country. Alas, in our country, the media is doing their best to destroy the leadership of our country with waves of hate filled accusations and fake news to make people believe they have the right to control our country. For those of us who have studied the Bible are well aware that this sort of problem has been around since the beginning of time. The people who knew and loved God lived in lands controlled by human kings, but always were careful to love and obey their heavenly king even if their human king was ungodly. After the people we now know as Jews were treated badly, they still claimed to be children of their God. Once they got to the promised land, they soon forgot all that he had done for them and lived a life of doing things their own way. Finally they came to their religious leader, Samuel, and demanded that he give them a king. Samuel was upset, but God told him, “Do everything they say to you,” the Lord replied, “for they are rejecting me, not you. They don’t want me to be their king any longer. Ever since I brought them from Egypt they have continually abandoned me and followed other gods.(1Sam.8:7,8)
When our founding fathers came here to get away from wicked kings, they decided to give us a form of government that would be controlled by the people. Alas, that kind of government only works if the people have a standard of values that comes from the Creator King who created the world. Now as a country we have what we call a democracy, but the hearts of our people as a whole want nothing to do with the God we claim to trust. Paul describes this God as the, Almighty God, the King of all kings and Lord of all lords.(1Tim.6:15) He y wrote, He is the eternal King, the unseen one who never dies; he alone is God.(1Tim.1:17) Alas, all too often those of us who call ourselves Christians and children of God have made the same choice as the children of Israel. We know the name of Jesus, but we see him as our Savior and lover and friend who has the responsibility of taking care of us without any concern for obeying him as we go through life with our own plans and feel good programs. Jesus is the King of kings and the Lord of all lords. He is the one who has planned every day of our lives and he is the one who loved us so much that he was willing to die and pay the price for our sins. Jesus longs for us to love him from our hearts so much that we are always asking him to show us what to do. Genuine lovers of God don’t tell God what to do. Those who are really God’s children love his Word, love his guidelines for living and are looking forward to spending eternity serving him perfectly forever. Do we really live like our King is coming, maybe today, certainly soon?
1 Timothy 6:15 For, At just the right time Christ will be revealed from heaven by the blessed and only almighty God, the King of all kings and Lord of all lords.
