Good morning,
Be careful little eyes
I still remember a song we would sing many years ago, that still is true today today. Some of the words we sang were, “Be careful little eyes what you see” and then “Be careful little ears what you hear” and another was “Be careful little feet where you go” that would then end up with the words “For the Father up above is looking down in love, so be careful what you see, or hear, or where you go” with each stanza. Those words are especially true when it comes to a holiday that we have in America called Memorial Day. It is a day to remember the brave men and women who have given their lives in the battles that have been fought to make sure that our country would stay free. Our founding Fathers wanted us to be ruled by leaders who loved our people and were following God’s rules, many of which were written into our laws in our original documents. The plan was good, but plans like this will only work if people will be careful about what they see and what they hear and where they go. As people we are still free to chose to obey or to rebel. Alas, most of us live as though there is little danger, when actually we are involved in a spiritual war that leads to heaven or hell.
When Jesus was here 2,000 years ago, he brought up this subject as part of his guidelines for those who claimed to be a part of God’s eternal family. Jesus said, "Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light. But when it is bad, your body is filled with darkness.(Lk.11:34) Since Adam and Eve fell at the beginning of time, sin has always been a part of our nature and our environment. In the last 100 years God has allowed men to develop the tools to reach the ends of the earth with the truth of the Good News of God’s saving love. Now we have the gifts of radio and television and movies and computers and personal telephones, cars and planes and trains, and all the other benefits of modern technology. The Bible that God gave us to explain his purpose for our lives, and the guidelines for living life his way, is now open to us as never before, yet our Enemy is using his version of truth that claims to be updated reality when it is actually based on the lies and fear and anger that will destroy our souls. God longs for us to know him and spend time with him in order to be able to fulfill his plans for our lives. Satan offers us comfort, distracting enjoyment and social pressure to conform us to his rebellious life and self centered living. The Lord warned us, Make sure that the light you think you have is not actually darkness.(v.35) The test that our Lord gives us is If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant, as though a floodlight were filling you with light.”(v.36) Remember what David prayed for when he wrote, Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.(Ps.139:23,24) Dear Lord will you help us to see what you see when you see us. Please help us to be true reflections of who you are instead of being religious teachers who are actually living in the dark and calling it the light.
Luke 11:35 Make sure that the light you think you have is not actually darkness.
