Two important holidays

Good morning,
Two important holidays

This week is a week of two very important celebrations.  For those of us in America we have been celebrating a very special day for our mothers.  Mother’s Day is so very important because when God planned for human beings to be created in their image, God made the man to take charge of the world’s life forms and then for him to have a special companion, a woman, to be a helper who is just right for him." (Gen.2:18) God knew just how much help we men would need if we were going to have the kind of balance that God the Father and God the Son and God the Holy Spirit had with one another.  Not only were Adam and Eve designed to be dads and moms, they were each given special gifts that would make the family a balanced and godly reflection of our Creator and Savior.  The psalmist wrote, Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name goes all the glory for your unfailing love and faithfulness.(Psa.115:1)  How we thank god for the very special gift set that he designed into our moms to be able to give us birth, to be able to love and care for us for the rest of their lives, and to be faithful to husbands and children through the thick and thin that comes with family life. How we thank God for the love and faithfulness of the Godly mothers that are an important part of so many of our lives.

Interestingly enough the psalmist had more to say on the same topic. He wrote, Why let the nations say, "Where is their God?" Our God is in the heavens, and he does as he wishes.(vs.3,4) The other important holiday that we should celebrate is the birthday for God’s special people, the Jews, who are celebrating the 70th birthday of the rebirth of their nation, Israel.  Over 2,500 year ago the prophet Isaiah wrote, Has a nation ever been born in a single day? Has a country ever come forth in a mere moment?(Is.66:8) That’s what happened 70 years ago when Israel was voted into being only to find themselves fighting for their lives in God’s promised land.  In battle after battle ever since, the Israelis have found themselves surrounded and outnumbered by hateful enemies, but God was with them and gave them victory every time.  God promised, Would I ever bring this nation to the point of birth and then not deliver it?”(v.9) Now this week, Israel’s enemies from the east and the west and the north are all hoping that they can do something that will begin driving this nation into the sea. They believe that their hate is stronger than the God in the heavens. Another prophet soon after Isaiah’s time, Ezekiel, gave us another promise of what God will be doing next for his special people.  In Ezekiel 38 and 39 we are told the names of the nations whose hate will overflow. They will attack Israel with great power, only do discover that God brought them there to utterly destroy their armies.  Not only that, but from that time on the people and the nation of Israel, will know that I am the LORD their God, (Ez.39:28) Thank you Lord for letting us celebrate the gift of our mothers and the gift that you have given and will give the people of Israel. Lord, will you help us to keep praying for our mothers and families as well as your special family, the Jews.

Psalms 115:1 Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name goes all the glory for your unfailing love and faithfulness. 2 Why let the nations say, "Where is their God?" 3 Our God is in the heavens, and he does as he wishes.
