Spiritual global warming

Good morning,

Were you aware of the fact that Jesus talked about global warming long before the politicians and scientists created the condition that we face today.  It all happened when Jesus was talking to his disciples the night before his crucification.  Jesus was explaining that it was going to be best for them that he go away so that he could send the Comforter or Counselor that we know as the Holy Spirit to help them.  Jesus said, And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God's righteousness, and of the coming judgment.(John16:8) Jesus was telling us that he would send his Holy Spirit to do something that would convict the rebellious world around us of what they would do that would bring God’s just judgement down on their heads.  Jesus went on to say, The world's sin is that it refuses to believe in me.(v.9) While Satan and the ungodly people in the world around us are trying to accuse people of causing the changes in our weather and our living conditions on what we are doing with our resources, Jesus said that his Holy Spirit would be convicting the ungodly of their sins because they would refuse to admit their guilt for refusing to believe in him.

King David gave us a wonderful word picture of what that would look like when he wrote Psalm 32.  David’s word picture began with the confession that he had chosen to sin and then tried to hide the fact. When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long.(v.3)  A man known for his love of life and his respect for his God began a downward spiral that led to sickness and depression.  His reputation as a reliable leader grew weaker as his sons and his military leaders began to question his right to reign any longer. David expressed his situation very clearly when he wrote, Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat.(v.4) The effect of this failure and opposition left him feeling like a dried up mud puddle.  So long as he refused to listen to his God, he was stuck in the mud of his sin.  But then, Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, "I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.”(v.5) David’s situation was the work of God designed to bring him to a place of such  weakness and fear that he realized that his only hope was his loving, gracious God.  The result was, And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.(v.5) David’s life looked like a looming disaster until his heart and mind accepted the cause of the problem, his sin, and his God’s willingness to accept his confession and clear him of his guilt.  While Satan is the accuser of those who sin, and who tries to drive us to despair, God’s Holy Spirit is the one who convicts us of our sin and offers us forgiveness and eternal life.  When we turn in repentance to him, we like David, can once again rejoice in God’s loving forgiveness and his strength that makes life worth living again.

Psalms 32:3 When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. 4 Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat.  5 Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, "I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.
