Our Lord, our Protector

Good morning,

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who will protect us from a fatal fall?  If we are God’s children, we know!  The Bible makes it very clear that the God of Creation, the God our Savior, the God of time and eternity is always with us to make sure that the chaos and uncertainty that is now a part of our lives is never out of his perfect control.  In fact, our Savior is doing something very special for us when he upsets the plans of his enemies by allowing the stress and strain of their uncertainty to show us whether our faith is a false front or a genuine proof of a real relationship.  Genuine trouble will help us to see ourselves as people who live in God’s perfect peace or who are no different then the rest of the world around us.  Genuine believers will say with the Psalmist, “God, I know that, you will protect me from the anger of my enemies.”(Psalm 138:7)  Genuine believers will hold out their hand to God knowing that, You reach out your hand, and the power of your right hand saves me. It’s at times like this that religious people panic and begin to do what they can to take control of their lives and become angry with the God who isn’t letting them carry out their own little dreams of what their lives should look like.

It’s times like we have today that genuine believers find themselves searching the Bible for God’s help. The Bible is full of promises for us to underline and memorize verses that are trustworthy promises of what our Savior and God will do for those who’s hearts are filling with faith, not fear.  The Psalmist is our example when he writes, The LORD will work out his plans for my life– for your faithful love, O LORD, endures forever.(v.8)  Our God has planted us where we are, so that we can be an example to those lost in the darkness and fear we are facing together.  If our faith in our creator God is real, our perfect peace will be real as well.  Genuine believers know that this powerful peace isn’t their own peace,  We know that God’s Holy Spirit will give us the peace that doesn’t make sense to them in order to be an invitation for them to join us in God’s family. The Psalmist also reminds us that the peace of God will not be a gift without a struggle.  He writes, Don't abandon me, for you made me.(v.8) The fear and confusion that is blowing all around us will often attack us without warning.  We will have to remind ourselves and our God that he has promised not to abandon us.  It’s times like this that we will have to remind ourselves that we are God’s kids and that he never breaks a promise that he has given us.  Dear Lord, thank you that you know what you are doing and what we are doing here as well.

Psalms 138:7 Though I am surrounded by troubles, you will protect me from the anger of my enemies. You reach out your hand, and the power of your right hand saves me. 8 The LORD will work out his plans for my life– for your faithful love, O LORD, endures forever. Don't abandon me, for you made me.
