Trust in God, and trust also in me

Good morning,

I am so glad that when the Bible tells us a story, it is telling us the truth.  Sadly, most of what we are hearing from our leaders these days doesn’t meet that standard at all.  Even though living conditions are growing more difficult for so many people in different parts of our world, our leaders are trying to tell us that if we will just do what they tell us to do, they will lead us out of our problems to a new and better day. Fear seems to becoming more intense in the news and in our awareness of the hate and anger that shows itself in more public ways on a daily basis.  That’s exactly where the disciples found themselves as they ate the passover meal with Jesus 2000 years ago.  Jesus had warned them about the trouble that was just ahead.  They had been told that there was a betrayer hanging around with them and that Jesus was about to die.  Jesus didn’t pretend that everything would be all right.  What Jesus told his disciples then and he tells his believers now is absolutely central if we are to be useful representatives of our Savior and God.  He tells us that we must make a choice about who and what will control our hearts.

First of all he tells us to trust the only real God that has ever existed in time or eternity.  The stories in the Old Testament and the prophet’s promises of all that would happen in time were based on the truth of the God who would never lie.  Our God promised that he would never leave us or forsake us.  Jesus also asked us to trust him as he did what he had to do to make it possible for sinners to become eternal children of our eternal Father God.  Jesus promised that he was going ahead of us to prepare a place for us that would be a part of God’s eternal home.  Jesus promised us that when he is ready and our place is ready for us, he will come and get us himself.  Jesus is really looking forward to our being with him and has promised us that we will be living with God himself in a world where all our tears will be wiped away, there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain.  He has promised us that all of the fear and ugliness of sin will never be a part of our eternal lives again.(Rev. 21:4,5) Jesus longs for us to trust him as - the way, the truth, and the life.(John 14:6)  If this is the way we have wholeheartedly chosen to live our lives, then and only then we will be able to have hearts at rest in him, and know the reality of John 14:27 "I am leaving you with a gift–peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don't be troubled or afraid.  Dear Lord, please help us to trust you with all of our hearts, so that this will be true of us as well.

John 14:1 "Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.
