The promise of accountability

Good morning,
The promise of accountability

The God of the Bible has always made it clear that he is in control of the rain.  Here in central California it has been months since we have had any helpful rain while in other parts of our country they have been having surprising amounts of rain.  We see that same pattern being played out all over the world as God uses his kindness and his anger in dealing with our sin driven world.  Satan, on the other had, does his best to get us to think that if we just use the resources of nature properly, we can be in the drivers seat of what will happen to “our world” in the future.  In the same way, the God of the Bible has told us that he is the only trustworthy source of truth, and that when we trust him for our salvation, and trust him for his plan for our lives, we will live lives that are worth while in time as well as in eternity.  Satan, on the other hand, has been allowed by God to use the words truth and trust in a completely different way in order to get us to live lives that are based on lies and half truths so that we will be able to get the best out of life for ourselves.

In the last year or so we have seen a series of government changes or takeovers in many parts of the world.  For us in America we have been bombarded with all kinds of information on what is wrong with political opponents and what is right with the parties who promise us a new and promising approach to our country’s problems.  Now adding to the mix we are being informed by different kinds of computer “leaks” what is really going on behind the scenes of the leaders involved.  These “leaks” have been stolen from computer files from all over the world and have exposed the ugliness and greed that seems to be what is really driving so much of what our leaders call human progress. The problem isn’t new.  When Jesus was here on earth he told one group of leaders, You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say.(Matt.12:34,35) Our Enemy, Satan, and those who follow him find it easy to make up lies and call it truth.  Their rebel hearts are determined to fight against the God of truth. Jesus added one more important truth when he said. And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.”(vs.36,37) Whether we are God’s children or one of Satan’s followers, we at some time and at some place will each face God and be acquitted and rewarded or condemned and punished for every idle word we have spoken.  Dear Lord, please help us to remember that you keep every promise that you make.

Matthew 12:35 A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. 36 And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. 37 The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.”
