God, our solid rock

Good morning,

We have just returned from three weeks of vacation that took us from California to Wyoming to Colorado and back again.  There is something very special about traveling through the mountains of this part of our country that renews one’s appreciation for the power and greatness of our Creator God.  Some of the mountains were very traditional in their form, but a large part of what we saw reminded us of powerful forces that tore through huge areas of solid rock that left the rock standing up at crazy angles for thousands of feet above the the valley floor.  In other places it looked like huge floods of water had washed away everything but the most solid rock, and the remaining rock took strange formations and beautiful patterns of light and dark for all to see.  Driving through these vast areas of high desert and rugged mountains left us in awe of the God who designed it all for the good of those of us who have been created in his own image.  Often we would cross a point in the road that was called the continental divide that showed that any water that fell on one side would flow thousands of miles to the East and on the other side would flow West from that point.  How did God do that?

God did all this based on a perfect plan that would take care of the people he planned to plant there throughout time.  As Samuel pointed out, “God’s way is perfect.”  The same God who controlled the forming of the mountains also controls the way we live life and the power he has to make promises that he always keeps.  The Bible is filled with promises of direction and protection that God makes to those who love him.  The complexity of mountains seems rather stable right now, but to God the protection and plan for each of us as individuals is just as secure.  What looks to us like chaos is part of his plan for time and eternity for those of us who are willing to call Jesus our Lord and Savior.  There is no one else like him.  There is no other creator God.  There is no one else who loves us with rock solid love that can not be shaken by anyone in heaven or earth. Our God is a solid rock who will never leave us or forsake us.  Our God is a strong fortress, a place of perfect safety for all of us who belong to his family and are a part of his eternal plan. Please Lord, help us to trust you with our lives like we trust in the awesome creation we see all around us.

2 Samuel 22: 31 “God’s way is perfect.  All the Lord ’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.  32 For who is God except the Lord?  Who but our God is a solid rock?  33 God is my strong fortress, and he makes my way perfect.
