Good morning,
How
much time does God have to carry out his plans? Since God is the one
who created time and fit it into his eternal plan, I guess we could say
that he has all the time he needs to carry out his plans. Why did God
wait thousands of years from creation to Noah’s time to end the
rebellion that had taken control of his perfect creation? Why did he
wait for a couple of thousand years more before he sent his Son to visit
the earth as a perfect man, while still being God, so that he could die
in our place to pay for our sins? And why, after his victory over sin
and death, has he continued to keep civilizations growing and fading for
the last two thousand years until he got to our generation? Why does
he keep waiting when there is so much evil and wickedness all around
us? Could it be that he has decided to let sin take its course so that
each person in each passing generation is forced to decide between
trusting a God that can’t be seen, or trusting ourselves and the control
that seems to be ours as we travel the short time line of each of our
lives? Could it be that there is something about waiting that helps us
to discover whether we really are trusting Him or ourselves as we travel
through time?
The God of the Bible has made it very clear that
he has planned all of time from beginning to end before he put his plan
into motion. We know that he has planned every day of each of our
individual lives to fit into time for a specific purpose and
outcome.(Psalm 139: 16-18) We know that he is very much aware of what
the wicked people on earth are doing and that when he takes action he
does so based on whether they will turn away from their wickedness to
him, or make a firm commitment to staying in control of their own
lives. Wicked people live on worry and clever planning energized by
anger and rage in the face of their fears. They feel frustrated and
blocked and soon tire of waiting for this “Bible God” to do something
about the frustrations that come with their sinful choices. The mark of
those who really are children of the eternal God is that they are
willing to wait for their Heavenly Father to carry out his plan for
their lives and for their generation. The reward that God has planned
for those who have passed the tests of time is that he will give his
kids an eternal and heavenly land that will always be theirs to enjoy.
God has a plan for the wicked as well. They will be destroyed. Dear
Lord, please help us to wait on you and your plan and not our own.
Psalm 37:7
Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait patiently for him to
act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their
wicked schemes. 8 Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose
your temper— it only leads to harm. 9 For the wicked will be destroyed,
but those who trust in the LORD will possess the land.
