Good morning,
It
has taken two long years to get here, but the week we have been waiting
for has finally arrived. Those of us who live in what we call a
democracy are expected to elect people to office who will lead us
through the challenges of life for the next two to four years, depending
on the office. We have been flooded with information that is designed
to get us to vote for people who tell us they can do the job better than
any of the other candidates who want to be in that same office. In
many countries there are claims of cheating and illegal deals that make
the process seem an empty show, but with those kinds of elections the
outcome is still the same. Someone has won the position, but who has
really decided who will be the winner long before the election took
place? As God’s kids we know that even with all the pressure and
pushing that goes with the election, the winner of each office is God’s
call, not ours, and he determines who will lead us in the future.
The
Bible is very clear, in both the Old and New Testaments, that God has a
master plan that comes with his choice of leaders to lead us. God
never leaves anything to chance. One good example of this was
Nebuchadnezzar, the most powerful king this world has ever known. God
repeatedly told his people that this cruel king was going to bring
judgment on the Jews because they insisted in rebelling against the God
who had called them to be his own special people. This cruel man
carried out God’s anger on his people, the Jews, just as God said he
would. But the story doesn’t end there. Nebuchadnezzar found out again
and again that there was a God far greater than himself in control, but
just like the Jews, he forgot to worship and honor the God who had
given him his position. So God arranged for him to lose his mind and
live like an animal for seven long years before he finally got the point
of who was in charge. After God gave the kingdom back to him, this
powerful man never forgot that “the Most High God rules over the
kingdoms of the world and appoints anyone he desires to rule over
them.” So who won our election? God did. Everyone who is supposed to
be leading us is where God put them, and they will have to give an
account of their leadership to us who voted, but more importantly, to
the Most High God who put them there.
Daniel 5:21 He
was driven from human society. He was given the mind of a wild animal,
and he lived among the wild donkeys. He ate grass like a cow, and he was
drenched with the dew of heaven, until he learned that the Most High
God rules over the kingdoms of the world and appoints anyone he desires
to rule over them.
