The Power behind the storms

Good morning,

Have you seen the pictures of the heavens that the scientists are taking of the stars and planets all around us?  The pictures are awesome beyond words, but not a word leaks out about the planner and builder of such an awesome display of beauty and power.  It all started with a “big bang”, they say.  Have you seen the pictures of the storms and awesome winds and waves that the Lord has been sending to remind us of his awesome creativity with our weather?  For some parts of the world, the Master of weather and wind has kept that part of his world dry and hot or cold and wind driven, while at other places in his creation there is rain and wind that bring awful destruction and suffering to those who live in those places.  In America, the media does it’s best to ignore world wide issues like this in favor of celebrating the dream world that explains unpleasant events like this as a part of our unwise use of our natural resources.  The story we are told is that if we just go “green” we can get out of these conditions.

As I am writing this, God has arranged for a massive storm to travel up our eastern coastline that is 900+ miles wide (1,500 kilometers) that has the potential for being the most destructive storm we have ever seen in America.  It is a combination of three different storms that will come together that has the potential to effect 60,000,000 people within the next two days.  I have yet to hear of, or read of, any mention of the Master who is controlling this massive challenge to a people who have turned their hearts away from God.  In America this year we have had to deal with a major drought and several very powerful and destructive storms, but not a word about why the Master of weather would be doing something like this.  In the heat of Job’s testing, when it seemed that everything had gone wrong, Elihu reminded Job of the importance of seeing our weather as part of something more than wind and rain.  Elihu pointed out that it was God who loads the clouds with water and sends the lightning and the rain.  He gave God credit for forming the churning clouds and sending them to carry out his plans whenever he wanted to make a point.  And God’s point?  He makes these things happen either to punish people or show his unfailing love.  Could it be that God is telling us something far more important then who wins the election and runs the government?  I think that he is telling us it is time to repent and return to him before he does something even worse to show us that there really is a God in the heavens who rules the earth as well.

Job 37:11 He loads the clouds with moisture, and they flash with his lightning. 12 The clouds churn about at his direction. They do whatever he commands throughout the earth. 13 He makes these things happen either to punish people or to show his unfailing love.
