Come, let's be going.

Good morning,
Come, let's be going.

We really are living in a very unique day and age.  For almost all of the history of the world, when people and nations didn’t get along, the leaders of the nations would insult one another but were limited by their weapons and distance when it came to a genuine surprise attack on one another.  These days our country leaders are busy calling one another names like boys, and not grown men, but now we all have weapons that can come from space and without warning cripple and even destroy their enemies in minutes and days instead of months and years of hand to hand warfare.  Now the Enemy of our souls and the prince of the power of the air is doing his best to threaten us with these awesome fears that are designed to turn us into slaves and prisoners of his evil threats. The good news that God gives us is that Satan may be a bully, but he is not in control of how things turn out.

The night before Jesus was to face the spiritual hand to hand combat with his sworn Enemy, and his willing death on a cruel cross, Jesus spent hours with his disciples talking about what was about to happen to him. At the end of that conversation he said something to them that didn’t make any sense. Jesus said, "I am leaving you with a gift–peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. And then he added, So don't be troubled or afraid.(John14:27) I am sure that by this point in the conversation their minds were spinning over the things Jesus had said, and the gift that Jesus promised them didn’t seem to fit into their idea of  Jesus as the Messiah they were expecting.  Jesus finally ended their conversation by saying, "I don't have much more time to talk to you, because the ruler of this world approaches.(v.30)  Then what Jesus said is something that none of them forgot for the rest of their lives. He said, He has no power over me, but I will do what the Father requires of me, so that the world will know that I love the Father.(vs30,31) Jesus was not afraid of the Devil. He knew that he was going to win. He knew that what he was about to do would change the outcome for for every human in time, for all of eternity. Jesus’ focus was the Father’s plan, and was energized by the love he and the Heavenly Father shared for the people who would live in their world. Jesus was ready to do what he had come to do. Jesus got up and headed out into the night with the command, Come, let's be going.  That command still stands for us today.  Remember he told the disciples after his resurrection, - go and make disciples of all the nations, -(Matt.28:19)   Dear Lord, help us not to be overwhelmed with fear or denial of our situation.  Please help us to follow your example. Let’s be going where you send us, doing what you tell us to do, because of your love for us and for the love you have for your world.

John 14:30 "I don't have much more time to talk to you, because the ruler of this world approaches. He has no power over me, 31 but I will do what the Father requires of me, so that the world will know that I love the Father. Come, let's be going.
