Good morning,
At times like we are facing in our world right now, we would do well to remember that God never has to call an emergency counsel meeting with his advisors when things take a surprising turn. Now our world leaders are all in a state of shock that the American voting process did not turn out the way they expected. The people and leaders who thought that they would win are now telling us that nothing good can come from this unjust outcome. Job, the most righteous man on earth, according to God’s personal opinion, suddenly found himself facing loss and pain that seemed to come out of nowhere. Job did his best to stay in control of his world and his family only to say good-by to all his children, all his wealth and finally his health. He was sure that God had made a really big mistake. Three of Job’s friends came along and decided that Job must be a bad man or this wouldn’t have happened to him. Job was convinced that what had happened was not right or fair. He decided that God had made a mistake and if only God would listen to him, this matter could all be cleared up. God’s response was not at all what Job expected. God said,"Will you discredit my justice and condemn me just to prove you are right? Are you as strong as God?(Job 40:8,9) God didn’t apologize or tell him what he was doing.
Later on in history the writer of Proverbs made it quite clear what God was up too. The God who gives us life, and who is leading us through life, requires that those who claim to be doing what is right must live by God’s standards of right and wrong. When we make up our own standards for right and wrong, we will always be in trouble with God. Job was known as a good man, but his goodness was based on how well he was doing and not on his faith in the goodness of God. When bad things happened, his world fell apart. What we learn from Proverbs is that God wants us to, Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.(3:5) God knows what and why he is doing things that way. We can’t see God’s big plan for nations and individuals. That’s God’s business, not our business. God longs for us to depend on his understanding. He longs for us to live by faith in his perfect plan. When we are willing to turn to God in faith and, Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.(v.6) God will not tell us why now. What he will tell us is what he wants us to do on a day by day basis so that our lives will be useful in time and finally in eternity. Why did this election turn out this way? Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. (Romans 13:1) Dear Lord, please help us to trust you and not our own understanding.
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
