Good morning,
Power, O God, belongs to you.
The cover from last week’s Time magazine had the two people who have been hard at work trying to become president, holding a sign that said, THE END IS NEAR. After way too many months of arguing and fighting with one another, I am convinced that neither one of them know what they are talking about. I am also convinced that they know nothing of the power of God and the reality of their accountability to the God of creation who will hold them responsible for the decisions they have made and will make in the days ahead. I find great comfort in the Bible story of the greatest and cruelest king this world will ever see. His name was Nebuchadnezzar, and according to what God said, he would be the most powerful king in all of time. He conquered every kingdom in his time, and enjoyed the power that God had allowed him to control. The prophet Daniel was used by God to warn him that he was forgetting the fact that he was only the king because that was a part of God’s big plan for that time in history. The king didn’t listen so God took action. For seven years he lived like a crazy man eating grass while living with the cows. When the punishment was over, God gave him his sanity and his kingdom again. The king then sent this testimony to the whole world of his day. I,looked up to heaven. My sanity returned, and I praised and worshiped the Most High and honored the one who lives forever. His rule is everlasting, and his kingdom is eternal. All the people of the earth are nothing compared to him. He does as he pleases among the angels of heaven and among the people of the earth. No one can stop him or say to him, 'What do you mean by doing these things?’(Daniel 4:34,35)
Years before this event, King David wrote, God has spoken plainly, and I have heard it many times: Power, O God, belongs to you;(Psalm 62:11) No matter what the Enemy of our Savior and our world may be doing, the power to place rulers and to remove them again, is up to Him. No system of government or powerful leader can stand against the power of the God of the Universe. We are not going through life without the ever present Savior being involved in each of our lives. In fact, King David went on to write, unfailing love, O Lord, is yours. Surely you repay all people according to what they have done.(v.12) Our Eternal Lord is the God who loves this world with a perfect sacrificial love. He knows those who are his and he knows what his enemies are up to. Our Lord will repay all the people on the earth who are God’s children with peace in time and eternal rewards in eternity. Those who foolishly think that they have the power to get what they want, will someday face the Most High God, and will have to pay the price for their rebellion for eternity. Dear Lord, please help us to remember who is in control. Not them, not us, but you Lord!
Psalms 62:11 God has spoken plainly, and I have heard it many times: Power, O God, belongs to you;
12 unfailing love, O Lord, is yours. Surely you repay all people according to what they have done.
