Good morning,
O LORD, rescue me from evil people.
It was just about 400 years ago that people from the “developed world” began to show up on the rugged and undeveloped land that we now know as the United States of America. These hardy people were mainly people who knew the reality of Proverbs 29:2 When the godly are in authority, the people rejoice. But when the wicked are in power, they groan. These faith filled families knew all too well what David meant when he wrote, O LORD, rescue me from evil people. Protect me from those who are violent, (Psa.140:1) As more and more people arrived in this new land of hope, many of them came with faith based values that came from a firm trust in the God of the Bible and a clear understanding of what God expected from those who claimed to be a part of His family. Alas, all of them came with a sin based human nature, and many of these early leaders recognized that the freedom and liberty that they longed for would only be available to their children if they continued to followed God’s plan for living a godly life. It was just 240 years ago that our leaders signed the papers that were based largely on the truth of the Bible and the commitment to a new liberty from the control of evil and violent people.
All these early documents were based on the truth of Isaiah 26:8. LORD, we show our trust in you by obeying your laws; our heart's desire is to glorify your name. Godly leaders and godly parents were very much aware of the power of sin and took seriously David’s prayer, Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.(Psa.139:23,24) Children learned early the truth that, Those who spare the rod of discipline hate their children. Those who love their children care enough to discipline them.(Pro. 13:24) These truths have ebbed and flowed over the years since July 4,1776 until our present time. Alas, now the words Freedom and Liberty have taken on a whole new meaning for our present generation. Now the word freedom is understood as the right to do what I want, when I want, without telling me that I am wrong. The word liberty is actually understood now as license to do what ever you want to do without any guidelines from the Bible or other religious teaching. Our country, and also a good part or our world, is falling back into the moral darkness that used to be called Paganism. Wicked people seem to be flooding into positions of leadership and violent solutions seem to be the way our leaders plan to control our lives. Now, we as God’s family, find ourselves praying with David, O LORD, rescue me (us) from evil people. Thankfully, God’s power and answer are still ours to claim. We can still say with David, The LORD gives his people strength. The LORD blesses them with peace.(Psalms 29:11)
