A plan for the whole earth
Well, our world got quite a jolt last week. It was a startling surprise for those of us who have been studying the prophetic passages for years that deal with God’s plan for the end times of our world. For years now we have watched how Europe was coming together to form a more or less unified approach to dealing with the challenges and opportunities they faced together. Many of us could see this unified group of nations as the geographic base for the rebellion against our Lord and his followers during the promised 7 years of tribulation. Now one of the key nations, the United Kingdom, has decided that they no longer want to be a part of this increasingly unsettled group of nations. Now the other 27 countries that make up European Union are faced with the challenge of where they will go from here. There is a great deal of fear and confusion about what will happen next. What these politicians and member countries are facing is the answer to what has happened and how to bring things back into some sort of a workable relationship again. Because these leaders and their countries as a whole have turned away from God, they only have fear and false reliance on their own resources as the hope for a workable solution.
What they don’t realize is what the Lord said through Isaiah thousands of years ago. God said, I have a plan for the whole earth, a hand of judgment upon all the nations.(Isa.14:26) God doesn’t have to wait for time to pass to know what will happen in the future. In fact, when Paul was preaching about this same issue about 600 years later he said, From one man he (God) created all the nations throughout the whole earth.Ever since the beginning of time God has seen the nations form, rise and fall, and he determined their boundaries.(Acts 17:26) God knows exactly what has happened to the nations up to now and he also knows everything that will happen throughout the rest of time. Again through Isaiah he said,The LORD of Heaven's Armies has spoken– who can change his plans? When his hand is raised, who can stop him?”(Isa.14:27) Today, God is up to something that fits perfectly with all of his plans for all of time. We don’t know how all this will work out, but what we do know is that the God of the Bible, who never makes a mistake, is doing something that makes perfect sense to an all knowing and all powerful God. God longs for us as persons and nations to turn to him for direction and wisdom. If we refuse his loving wisdom and salvation, we need to expect in his own time and way his holy judgement. Dear Lord, help us to watch and pray and serve you faithfully as you carry out your perfect plans for our nation and for all the other nations of the earth around us.
