His unfailing love for those who fear him

Good morning,

While the world around us is trying to do it’s best to get us focused on what’s wrong, the Lord God of Heaven and Earth is inviting us to change our focus to him.  The God who spoke the heavens and earth into place by just saying the word is still the same God who sent the Living Word, Jesus, to demonstrate his ability to conquer sin and death by his willing death on a cruel cross.  Even though Satan has had thousands of years to sharpen his skills at hating and lying and killing, he is no match for the risen and conquering Light of the world, Jesus. The Holy Spirit gave King David a wonderful window of light that made life wonderfully livable for him and we have the benefit of what he wrote about this in Psalms 103. Even though David’s life was filled with enemies and betrayal and near death circumstances and sins big and small, David came to understand that these events were lessons that taught David what his God was really like.

David knew without a doubt that his Lord was a compassionate and merciful God who was willing to work for him as he went through the lessons of life.  David knew that he deserved God’s anger and yet God kept surprising him with his love, so different than the accusations and hate of his enemies. David knew the guidelines for righteous living and he also knew the pain that he faced when his enemies celebrated his failures.  David also learned that his Lover didn’t punish him for all his sins.  In fact, his Lover didn’t require perfection. What his Lover wanted was a heart that was open to correction, repentance and a new response to the old challenge.  David’s God really was compassionate and merciful when the tests and failures were a part of the learning process.  David learned that love for his God and godly fear of failing his God go together.  David served a God whose greatness was beyond understanding and unfailing when his children’s hearts were given wholeheartedly to their Lord and Savior.  Dear Lord, will you please help us to learn these lessons on a daily basis as we keep walking hand in hand with you through the challenges of life.

Psalms 103:8 The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. 9 He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever. 10 He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. 11 For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.
