Good morning,
Our home is Heaven
It’s been a number of years since I wrote a Minute on this part of God’s Word, but our present set of circumstances makes us view this truth from a whole new viewpoint. The Bible makes it very clear that those who accept God’s offer of eternal life through faith in Jesus as Savior and Lord, could look forward to an eternity of living with God in heaven. In the past, the developed world as a whole has accepted, more or less, this truth as the basis for looking forward to getting out of this world filled with pain and fear into a world of blessing and peace. That view has all been changing over the last sixty years until now the developed world has turned their backs on the Bible and is looking for something else to give them purpose for living and life itself. Now people who have decided that the Bible is right, and live by its standards, are seen as dangerous enemies of the freedom to live life the way it should be lived. Rebellion against the God of the Bible is now considered respectable and necessary if we are going to save our planet and our health. Some people want to make their heaven here on earth while others want to conquer our earth to make sure that they will have a place in their version of heaven.
God has a wonderful word for those of us who are trusting our souls to the God of the Bible. Jesus said that, God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. God knew the enemies of his truth would develop their own truths to test those who claim to be his followers. He warned us that people would mock and sneer, hurt and lie, and treat us as evil people for not following their so called truth. He told us to expect pain and suffering and death as the standard way of life for those who would follow his example of love as shown by his son in his life and death to make heaven a reality for all those who were willing to live by this expensive faith. Jesus then used some startling words to put this all in an eternal perspective. He said, Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. The rewards of living with our loving eternal Savior make the expensive proof of our love seem small when seen from the joys of living in peace and safety for eternity in his heaven. Oh yes, he also reminds us that the faithful people who came before us in time had to face the same kind of life style and will welcome us home when our time on earth is finally over.
Matthew 5:10 God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
