Jesus, the Light of life

Good morning,
his life brought light to everyone
God has given us four different accounts of the life of Jesus in the guide book he designed to tell us the love story of his work in the world he created.  When the apostle John wrote his version of the life of Jesus, he started in the beginning and not in the middle. John knew all the main people in the story of the birth of Jesus, but he looked at this man’s life as beginning before time and continuing on for all the rest of eternity.  John knew Jesus as the Word. John knew Jesus as God, the son of God.  John knew Jesus was the one who spoke the words that put all of our world and all of our universe together.  John knew that Jesus gave life to what he created and then his life here on earth is what has brought life to everyone who has been given life.  John lived with Jesus for three and a half years as one of his closest followers and he knew that he was a man.  He also knew that he was a sinless man who had nothing to hide. John took care of Mary, the mother of the human Jesus, after Jesus was crucified and rose again, and no doubt heard much of this part of his story from Mary herself.  John also worked and lived with the human brothers of Jesus for the rest of his life.  He also knew that Jesus was the light of the World, and that it was impossible for any form of darkness to put out the Light of life.

John was also the man who saw Jesus face the powers of darkness, as the people he had given life to, refused to recognize him as the author of life. This same John was left in total confusion when even their own people, the Jews, rejected him as a follower of Satan instead of believing him as the word of life and the Son of God. What John also knew was that, . .  to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.(John 1:12) John knew that Jesus wasn’t just a failed prophet or a powerful but dead miracle worker. John knew Jesus for who he really was. He summarized what he knew when he wrote, So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.(John 1:14) John put all this together for us, in his Gospel of John ,so that we would be able to have a living working joyful life of service that begins now in time and will never end in eternity. Christmas isn’t just a holiday.  It’s the eternal truth that the God who made us also loves us and that what he began will never end.  Dear Lord, please teach us to love and trust you more and more like John did.

John 1:4 The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
