Witnesses for the only genuine Savior

Good morning,
I, yes I, am the Lord, and there is no other Savior  Isaiah 43:11

We had a good discussion on Sunday about what the Lord wanted us to do about the speed limits on our highways.  It seemed that there was a common understanding that to go the speed limits was putting your life and your reputation at risk because almost everyone knows that you can drive well above the speed limits, and that only the unlucky person will get stopped by the police.  This discussion was important because how we react to this one law will give us a fairly accurate picture of how we understand the role of Jesus as our Savior and the Lord of our lives.  God makes it very clear in both the Old and New Testaments that we who have chosen to trust the God of the Bible are also chosen by God to be witnesses to a watching world of what it means to have a living relationship with the one true God.  Religion teaches us that we are supposed to follow the rules, but if circumstances make the rules dangerous or unpopular, we are still okay if we adjust.

God’s word to Isaiah was very clear.(Isa.43:10)  God said that the people of Israel were his witnesses.  Not only that, they were chosen to be his servants.  That kind of faith means that we must chose to believe him no matter what the people around us believe is right and wrong. The kind of faith that God accepts is faith that is lived out under the real circumstances of life that shows that we actually understand who he is and what that means to us on a daily basis.  He made it quite clear that there is no other God.  He pressed his point by saying “there never has been, and there will never be.”  So when it comes to how fast we drive, or how we do our work, or what we say when we are attacked by enemies, or how we feel when we lose control of our lives, or even if we have been chosen to give up our lives, will we do what is right? Are we willing to show the world what faith in God is all about? Is the Lord of the earth able to keep his kids safe on a highway filled with rebellious drivers?  Is the God of the Universe able to take care of his family members when they are honest and loving in the face of angry and hate filled people?  Will God abandon his children when they insist that the only truth you can trust is written in God’s Word when talking to people who have chosen other gods?  And how about when God’s plan for his kids include a bloody and pain filled ending to life here on earth.? Will he be with his children then or not?  Dear Lord, please help us to really believe you for who you are, our Savior and our Lord.

Isaiah 43: 10 “But you are my witnesses, O Israel!” says the Lord. “You are my servant. You have been chosen to know me, believe in me, and understand that I alone am God. There is no other God— there never has been, and there never will be.
