The Lover who waits for the right time

Good morning,

He looked down on the people of Israel and knew it was time to act.  Exodus 2:25

Waiting is always hard work, especially when you have to wait for over 400 years for God to keep his promise to his suffering people.  God had promised that the children of Abraham would some day be given the land that Abraham camped on when he left his home and arrived in the land that God said would belong to his children some day.  It took Joseph to get his family of 70 men and their families into Egypt and only a few generations later they found themselves slaves to the very people that Joseph was used by God to keep alive.  The longer they were there and the more their numbers grew, the more they frightened their masters.  Their hateful masters decided that the answer was to work them like animals and keep them cowed by fear and pain. Most of the people gave up on their father’s God and worshiped the gods of their slave masters.  But God didn’t give up on his plan.  He waited until the time was right to keep his promise to bring them back to the promised land. Then it took God 80 more years to get Moses ready to carry out God’s plan to lead his people out of their captivity.

Why did God wait?  He waited because there was only one right time for the next step in his plan.  God has planned out all of time, so he knows when each step of his plan will carry out his will for time and eternity his way.  His plan is completely finished and it is designed to include all the little details that make up our lives on a daily basis.  Moses tried to stop the pain and pressure of his people on his own time line, and ended up running for his life to escape his angry leaders.  He didn’t wait.  He worried and fretted about this wicked system that was designed to destroy his people.  It wasn’t God’s time yet.  Now when God was ready to act, no one or nothing was able to block God’s plan to give them the freedom he had promised them.  The people were worried about staying alive, but God was waiting for his time to set them free to leave their slavery for a land flowing with milk and honey.  His power and miracles were so awesome that people still remember them today.  The same God who carried out his plan for his people thousands of years ago is still carrying out his plans for our world and each of us in his world today.  God knows what he is doing.  We don’t know what to do.  He does.  Dear Lord, will you please help us to give up our worries and fretting and wait patiently for your day by day plan to work out your plans for each of our lives.

Psalms 37: 7 Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.
