God's reliability in our confusion

Good morning,

Those of us who are citizens of the United States are being asked to vote for our leaders next month.  We have been bombarded with all kinds of information about the candidates for the different offices for over a year and now we face an intensive campaign of words and actions designed to get us to vote “their” way.  What should a Christian do when facing this flood of information that is full of lies, half truths and self serving posturing to get us to make a decision in their favor.  Since it is not fair for us to require leaders who are not controlled by the Holy Spirit to live as though they were God’s kids, we are faced with choices we would rather not have to make.  Most of the candidates are not neighbors or known to us in any way, so how are we to know what they will do if they do get into the office.  Is this an issue that we can decide for ourselves and leave these unknown persons to their own fate?  What should we do when it appears that our country and our neighbors seem determined to walk away from the God of the Bible to follow the enemies of the Lord God Almighty?

It’s at times like this that we need to follow the directions of the Lord of the earth and stop depending on our own understanding.  The situation is far to confusing for there to be only one decision that will fit all of God’s kids.  The Lord knows how often his kids have faced situations like this before, so he gave us directions that will fit all of us at any point in time.  He tells us to, Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.  Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. (Proverbs 3: 5,6) The Lord of the earth knows why he has planted us where we are and what he wants us to do in our set of circumstances.  The Lord is our lover, and he delights in the decisions that we make as we depend on him.  Our enemy will threaten us with making mistakes and being a part of the problem instead of being a part of the solution, but the Lord is holding our hands and he does know what we will say and do that will please him.  May the Lord lead us into his peace as we do what he leads us to do at this point of decision making.

Psalm 37:23 The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. 24 Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the LORD holds them by the hand.
