Another perfectly planned year

Good morning,

Happy New Year!  Last night Marty and I had a wonderful time reviewing last years events as we prepared to ring in the new year.  Although there were many challenges and not a few disappointments, we also had the joy of tracing the hand of God in the lives of our friends, family and coworkers. Even though we can only see a little of what the Lord has been doing, it’s exciting for us to realize that we are living during the years that the Lord has been fulfilling ancient prophecies right in front of our eyes.  On a more personal level, we can look back on a year when the Lord fulfilled his promises to us again and again.  We asked him for direction and he took us by the hand and led us step by step, day by day, month by month throughout another God planned year.  Our looking back on the journey took us back again to verses that we review almost daily from Psalm 139: 16-18.  We have often felt alone during the year, but the truth is that none of God’s kids will ever go through any part of time or eternity without his thoughtful, loving presence.

I am so glad that everything about our life has been planned long before we began as a little collection of cells in the darkness of God’s private nursery that we now know as our mother.  We have just a few memories of those early years, but the Lord of our lives had all the moments carefully planned to prepare us for ministries that were yet to come.  Even now that we have had a life filled with memories, there is no way we can understand the complexities of how God’s plans for us included the lives of so many others.  What I know for sure is that the God of the Universe has woven billions of plans for billions of individuals all going on at the same time into a unified story of his love and grace that will be remembered and retold throughout eternity.  I am so glad that the Lord doesn’t get tired of thinking about us.  I am so thankful that he is thinking about us even if we are thinking only of ourselves.  I am so glad that the God who created us is also the God who loves us enough to buy us back from a life of sin and loss at the cost of the his beloved son.  I am so glad for Emmanuel, God with us.

Psalm 139:16 You saw me before I was born.  Every day of my life was recorded in your book.  Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.  17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!  18 I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand!  And when I wake up, you are still with me!
