Good morning,
This week the Lord has allowed us to write this Monday Minute from a beautiful setting in the shadow of a towering range of mountains in the western part of America. The Lord has allowed us to spend two weeks on vacation traveling from the far western edge of our continent through hundreds of miles of mountain range after mountain range. We have been in awe of the beauty and the awesome size of what the Lord has built just by speaking the words that made it all happen. When Isaiah looked around his part of the world in his day he expressed his awe by writing, Who else has held the oceans in his hand? Who has measured off the heavens with his fingers? Who else knows the weight of the earth or has weighed the mountains and hills on a scale? (Isa.40:12) We really do serve a very awesome God. Just by speaking he put all of this together. There is no way that we could make anything like this together on our own. Even though he has shown us his power in this way, we as a part of this creation often feel that we have the right to tell the Lord God Almighty how he should be carrying out our plans for our lives.
When Isaiah thought about this he expressed his amazement by writing, Who is able to advise the Spirit of the Lord? Who knows enough to give him advice or teach him? Has the Lord ever needed anyone’s advice? Does he need instruction about what is good?(vs.13,14) Right now we are living in a world that feels that since we as humans are connected to one another, we should be able to solve the issues we are facing by our own wisdom and skill. So now, on a personal and a world wide level, we listen to our fears and believe one another’s lies with the conviction that we don’t need anyone else’s power to get ourselves out of the mess we have made of our lives. We do our best not to be controlled by anyone or anything around us when the truth is that we are never really in control of ourselves or anything else. Our God is always doing the right thing, at the right time, with the right outcome, based on a plan that he put together even before he spoke everything into place. What the Lord longs for us to do is to stop looking around us, to remember who He is, and then do what he tells us to do even if we don’t understand what is going on around us. It’s a wonderful relief when we actually realize that the God who has given us life has planned all the details of all of our lives. He hasn’t missed anything in his planning, and everything he has planned will always turn out exactly the way he planned it. For those of us who are a part of God’s eternal family, we really do serve an Awesome God!
Isaiah 40: 13 Who is able to advise the Spirit of the Lord? Who knows enough to give him advice or teach him? 14 Has the Lord ever needed anyone’s advice? Does he need instruction about what is good?
