Good morning,
If you live today in a world without God, it looks like things are really falling apart all over the world. If people think that there is no God in their little world, even if you are good at ignoring bad news, things don’t really seem to be doing very well even on a personal level. Here in California we have been dealing with a serious drought for a number of years, and as you travel the highways you will often see a hand made sign that says “Pray for Rain.” This winter we have been getting all kinds of rain, a lot more rain than we usually get all year long. As I write this Monday Minute there are 188,000 people three hours drive North of us who are having to get out of their communities any way possible because a very large dam is threatening to fail. People without God call it “Global Warming”, but the most righteous man on earth thousands of years ago, Job, gave us God’s perspective on what is going on. He said, If he(God) holds back the rain, the earth becomes a desert. If he releases the waters, they flood the earth.(Job 12:15) He then went on to say, Yes, strength and wisdom are his; deceivers and deceived are both in his power.(v.16) The world without God has to make up an answer for what is happening, but God’s Word tells us that they are deceived people looking in the wrong place to find the truth.
But for those of us who have a real faith based relationship with the God who is there, we can look at this same situation through a whole different filter, Isaiah laid out the truth for us when he wrote, You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!(Isaiah 26:3) Whatever God is doing at any time in history is always a part of his eternal plan for our generation and our individual needs. God doesn’t make mistakes when he sends rain or when he withholds it. God doesn’t make mistakes when he brings peace to a nation or when he allows chaos to tear it apart. Our God is in charge of those who lead our countries as well as those who do their best to destroy our countries. God knows why we have good health or we find ourselves in weakness or pain. What God longs for us who are a part of his family to do is, Trust in the LORD always, for the LORD GOD is the eternal Rock.(v.4) The God of the Bible is always doing the right thing at the right time in order to carry out his perfect plan for time and eternity. For those who insist that they have the right to stay in control he says, He humbles the proud and brings down the arrogant city. He brings it down to the dust.(v.5) Dear Lord, thank you for the peace that you offer your family as we trust you and live our lives based on your perfect plans.
