No one can predict the future

Good morning,
Who can change his plans?

One of the most encouraging things about reading and studying the Bible is, that while it points out lies, it never tells us lies that will someday be exposed by the Judge of time and eternity.  Right now we are living in a world where most politicians build their support base on empty promises and outright lies.  Sadly, most of the religious movements that surround us, world wide, are also based on the very same approach to building their widely different support bases. Even more painfully, the world around us has become gleefully aware that those who call themselves Evangelical Christians are happily supporting leading candidates for office whose public life has been marked by lies and immoral behavior.  For most people, the guideline of honesty, integrity, love and holy living have been completely ignored when looking for direction in life on the personal and national level. What we seem to have forgotten on every level is that the God of Creation tells us that he is now and always has been firmly in control of everything that is happening on a global and personal level.

When God spoke through the prophet Isaiah over 2,500 years ago, he made it very clear who was in charge of life.  He said, The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has sworn this oath: “It will all happen as I have planned. It will be as I have decided. God wasn’t making an empty promise when he made this universal statement.  The Old Testament is full of examples of how God allowed powerful kingdoms to grow and how completely he destroyed them when they refused to bow in worship to their Creator God. God continues to clarify his authority in verse 26 when he says, I have a plan for the whole earth, a hand of judgment upon all the nations. King David speaks to this same authority on a personal level when he writes, Though I am surrounded by troubles, you will protect me from the anger of my enemies. You reach out your hand, and the power of your right hand saves me. (Psalms 138:7) The New Testament speaks to the same issue in history, as well as telling us what God will do at the end of time for those who trust him and those who rebel against him. For his faithful followers he says, And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.(1 Peter 1:5)  For those who have lived a rebellious life God promises, And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:15)  God sums up his directions to his world when he speaks again in Isaiah 14:27, The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has spoken—who can change his plans? When his hand is raised, who can stop him?” Dear Lord, please help us not to forget your eternal truth in this matter.

Isaiah 14: 24 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has sworn this oath: “It will all happen as I have planned. It will be as I have decided.
