Good morning,
Why try to understand?
All of us spend a lot of time and energy trying to understand, prepare for and control our personal worlds. When the circumstances around us seems to be flowing smoothly, it’s easy to think that we will be able to make plans that will work out the way we think they should. The older we get the more proof we have that our good plans do not guarantee good outcomes. What we forget is that God has already put together a perfect plan for each of us that will lead to his perfect outcomes that begin in time and then carry on into eternity.(Psalms 139:16 ) What we also forget is that our enemy Satan and the world around us are always doing their best to give us sin based expectations and fear based plans that will steer us away from the perfect plans that God has already put together. Life gets even more challenging when it seems that our worlds are coming apart and that the course of our lives looks like a river that has overflowed its banks and is tearing up everything in its way. What do you think that a refugee running for their life feels like? Everything that made life livable has been torn away, fear has become the driving force of life, and they have no idea what will happen to them and to the people that they loved. The driving question that controls our lives in either situation is the word Why.
When the unexpected happens, as God’s children, we have to make the choice of answering the why question as though God was not alive and well, or giving up on the why question and just trusting that God knows what he is doing. Our Enemy tries to get us focused on the why and forget who is in charge of each of our lives. God’s Word reminds us that we are to, Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. There is no way for us to see God’s big plan for each of our lives. In this life we will never really know what is going on, but God does. God longs for us to ask him what to do, not why. Only he know where we are going and what we will be doing. He tell us, Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Circumstances are never under our control. When Satan tries to get us to hang on to our dreams or get angry with God for his stubborn insistence on our doing things his way, the Lord gives us a clear warning when he says, Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil.(Proverbs3:5-7) Since God never makes a mistake and since he loves us more then we will ever understand in this life, the worship and praise he loves to hear is ‘What Lord’, and refuse the sin of ‘Why’ for his glory.
Proverbs 20: 24 The Lord directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way?
