What's beyond the turn in the road?

Good morning,

How would you feel if you were traveling alone on a well lit road on a dark and stormy night only to discover that the road suddenly stopped at a very dark corner and you heard a voice behind you say “Turn Right?” That’s how the disciples felt when Jesus announced that he was about to die.  He gave them a map to follow as they turned that terrifying corner.  He said, Don’t be afraid. You have been trusting in God, now trust in me as well. I have been thinking a lot about this since a man I have mentored for 20 years, and who is about the same age as my sons, closed his earthly eyes for the last time last week.  He was young, strong and effective and then his Lord called him into eternity.  The doctors called it brain cancer, but the Lord of life called him home at just the right time in his eternal plan. (Psalm 139:16)   When he opened his eyes in his new heavenly body, what did he see?  The map Jesus gave us tells us we will see our Shepherd at the gate of heaven waiting for us.(John 10:9)  When we get home there will be more than enough room in our Father’s house, and it will always be home for us for all of eternity.

I’ll never forget the shock I had when my Bible professor told us that those words didn’t mean we would all have a personal palace of our own to live in.  It has since occurred to me that if I have the right sized room to live in in my Father’s perfect palace, that will be all I will ever need.  No more rent, no more utilities, no more taxes and no more unexpected repairs!  Since the place I am given will be completely finished, there will be no waiting in line to get the place my Savior has personally designed just for me.  More than that, we will always be living with him as well as he will always be living with us.  We will clearly hear our Savior’s voice and perfectly see his loving face, and that is just the beginning of what the Lord has in store for those who are a part of God’s eternal family.  Then Paul, who had a quick visit to heaven, explained what he saw by quoting Isaiah 64: 4.  There it says, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him."  Dear Lord, please help us to live by faith in you day by day until we come to the end of this road, and then by faith begin our journey through the rest of eternity for the glory of our eternal Father God and our eternal Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

John 14:1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.
