Good morning,
When I awake, I will see you face to face and be satisfied. Psalms 17:15
King David and Joseph and Jesus and his folks knew all too well what it meant to be a refugee. But for most of us the word refugee is a word that identifies people from somewhere else in poor far away countries who happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Now and then a article or news program will show up that tells us a sad story of people running for their lives, away from their homes and even from their countries, with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Some of these people have just enough time to grab what they can carry, but if they live to arrive at a safer place, they have only what other people will give them to keep alive. People who keep track of these events tell us that today there are more people living as refugees, over 50 million people, than there were during the second World War. They also tell us that at least 50 percent of those affected are children who are often alone or with only a part of their family. Where is the God of love at times like these?
The God of love, the God of the Bible, the Sovereign Lord, the God who knows, is there! He not only knows, but he cares even when we don’t know and we don’t care. Not all of the people involved are a part of God’s eternal family, but our loving Father is aware of each one. We know that the Good Shepherd has a very special place in his heart for each person and especially in his plan for the innocent children. Remember the flight at night that he once experienced himself. We also know that our Enemy delights in targeting God’s kids, but like David, God’s anointed king, we know that no refugee ever goes into the unknown alone. It was at times like these that David learned to pray and trust his Savior even though it seemed that there was no help and no hope in his desperate situation. David knew that God heard his prayers, for he had day to day and sometimes moment to moment proof that his lover was there. God kept showing his unfailing love in wonderful ways, and in his case, he was rescued from his deadly enemies to become a great and godly king. But what about those today who are suffering from the awful cold or lack of food or the wicked treatment of cruel men? Their Lord is with them, he hears and answers their prayers in his own special way and when their life here is over they will say with David, “When I awake, I will see you face to face and be satisfied.” Dear Lord, please help us to love and care for folks like these more and more like you do.
Psalms 17:6 I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray. 7 Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways. By your mighty power you rescue those who seek refuge from their enemies.
