Good morning,
Without
a doubt, we are living in a very dynamic period of time in world
history. Every day we are waking up to a new development in some
situation in some place next door or at the other side of the world.
Part of the challenge that the Lord has given us in the Never Give Up
ministry is working with folks in parts of the old USSR. We have been
prayerfully involved in coming alongside a number of folks who are
facing the the loss of freedom as they watch a big bear swallow up their
beloved country. Their country has been so weakened by years of ungodly
leadership that any kind of resistance will only hasten the day that
they loose their identity and the freedom they have enjoyed for many
years. I get the feeling that they are like people who have felt the
earthquake and are now waiting for the huge tsunami waves that will
follow and swallow up what they have known as normal life. And then
again, I was highly amused last week to read an article from a
politician writing about the glowing future ahead for Ukraine.
Watching
this story unfold has reminded me of a much more important event that
is now facing not just one country but one rebellious self centered old
world. As modern day peoples we have been enjoying the false freedom of
rebellion against an all powerful and all knowing God. We have been
squandering the natural resources and the wonderful advances of
technology that the Lord has made available for us to use to carry the
gospel to the ends of the earth. We want life lived our way, and we
want him to keep out of our way. Yet we are feeling a growing sense of
fear that we are losing control of our lives and of the world as we want
it to be. Global warming is actually the heat of our Creator God doing
what he promised at the end of the age. The Psalmist tells us “ The
Lord does whatever pleases him throughout all heaven and earth, and on
the seas and in their depths.” Can we hold back the rain and the
violent storms? Can we control the sliding mountain sides or the fierce
fires that are sweeping our countries? Can we send rain when God sends
a drought? Paul points out that it is “impossible it is for us to
understand his decisions and his ways!” (Romans 11:33) The Lord wants
us to listen to Job when he said “ The fear of the Lord is true wisdom;
to forsake evil is real understanding. (Job 28:28) Lord, please help us
to sincerely turn our hearts back to you so that we will not be swept
away like those who have rebelled against their God.
Psalms 135:6
The Lord does whatever pleases him throughout all heaven and earth, and
on the seas and in their depths. 7 He causes the clouds to rise over
the whole earth. He sends the lightning with the rain and releases the
wind from his storehouses.
