Does God really care for the helpless?

Good morning,

Have you been following the story of the cruise ship that has been floating without power and without anchors somewhere out in the ocean filled with cannibal rats? The best thing that could happen to that ship is that a storm or a rust spot takes it to the bottom where it can’t cause any more trouble.  I was also reminded of this ship this week by an update from Moody Bible Institute of a new program that they have developed to train people in caring for adults and children who have been trapped by wicked people into different forms of slavery.  This wicked practice, trafficking,  has become a world wide scourge that destroys the lives of children and young adults much like the cannibal rats that feed on the weak and helpless in their doomed ship. We personally know and support missionaries who are ministering to those trapped in this wicked business. We are appalled by this satanic attack on the children and people who are so near and dear to our Heavenly Father.  Our modern cultures have indeed become more and more like this powerless, rudderless and anchor-less ship destined for destruction.

Where is God in all this?  Does he care for the children and the oppressed who have been trapped by sinful men and women whose hearts and minds are controlled by the Enemy?  Yes, Jesus cares.  Jesus loves children and gives them special angelic protection.  Why doesn’t he stop this awful practice?  He will when he is ready.  Remember what he did in Noah’s day!  Alas, we are living in a world that has become “corrupt and filled with violence” just like in Noah’s day.(Gen. 6:11)  King David was living in a time when sin was threatening his people in a lot of the same ways and wrote about God’s work when faced with this challenge in Psalm 34.  God tells us that he is watching over those who do right and he will hear their cries for help. He also tells us that he will turn against those who do evil and erase their memory from the earth.  These wicked people who enslave others for their profit and use, will suddenly face calamity as they sink into the sea of God’s wrath.  They will have nothing to look forward to but the blackness of hell and the lake of fire that he is preparing for them.  But then there is his promise.  The Lord will redeem those who serve him.  There is hope for those who have been trapped because the Lord has promised that no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.  In fact, because of the finished work of the cross, those who are oppressed and those who oppress others can come to Jesus and be rescued from this sinking ship. Dear Lord, please help us not to forget those who have become prey to this wicked practice.

Psalms 34:15 The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help. 16 But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil; he will erase their memory from the earth.
21 Calamity will surely overtake the wicked, and those who hate the righteous will be punished.  22 But the Lord will redeem those who serve him. No one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.
