How could one chase a thousand?

Good morning,

While I was reading the news last week, I suddenly realized that we are not just dealing with history in the making.  We are also dealing with really ancient prophecy being fulfilled in front of our eyes.  Moses, who wrote the first five books of the Bible over 3,000 years ago was far more than a leader and a historian.  Moses was also a prophet who wrote out God’s standards for blessing and cursing those people who would claim to follow him as their God. Just before he died he wrote out what people could expect if they would follow God with all their hearts.  Blessing and wonderful rewards would be theirs as long as they stayed true to their promises to follow their God.  He also warned them that if they turned away from him to other god’s he would turn away from them and bring a curse on their country and his people. What Moses prophesied for the people who would turn away from him then is still in force for us today.

Moses described the people then as a senseless nation who were foolish and without understanding.  They were living in denial of their responsibility to the God who had given them life and had made them his special people. They were making all their plans about life and success as though they were in control of life and their fate.  Moses then prophesied that instead of blessings and rewards he would give them up to his anger and their enemies.  Instead of his people being able to chase their enemies by the thousands, now one person would be able to chase a thousand of them, and two people would put ten thousand of them to flight.  Have you noticed that earlier this year two men had hundreds of people running away from their bombs at a race, one man with his gun shut down a whole town on the east coast and last week one man shut down a major airport on the west coast.  Just one or two are doing what Moses said we could expect them to do when the Lord gives a people up because they have turned away from God.  America is not Israel, but our country was founded on the guidelines of the Bible and now we have foolishly turned away from him.  May the Lord help those of us who have stayed true to our God, also stay committed to sharing God’s love and forgiveness with those who will turn back to following our eternal God.

Deuteronomy 32:28 “But Israel is a senseless nation; the people are foolish, without understanding. 29 Oh, that they were wise and could understand this! Oh, that they might know their fate! 30 How could one person chase a thousand of them, and two people put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, unless the LORD had given them up?
