Wake up, we are almost there!

Good morning,

One feature that comes with having small kids on a long trip is the frequently asked question, “Are we there yet?” It takes time to go a long way and kids aren’t interested in the trip, they just want to get there.  The modern church has seemed to forget that the bad years, when the bad guys seems to be winning, are actually some of the best years we will have for seeing people come to faith in Jesus.  While God’s enemies are driven by fear and hate, God empowers his eternal family to learn what it means to love in the face of all the opposition.  God’s love does no wrong to others, so the contrast between those driven by fear and those who draw others to peace, joy and faith based living, is sharp and effective in getting people’s attention.  Our enemy does his best to get God’s kids thinking of the Lord’s soon return for their own relief instead of seeing these events as a priceless opportunity to demonstrate the reality of a loving God, arms wide open, offering what can not be found in all the confusion and despair that marks our world today.

If we are going to be useful to our Father in the way he has planned for us, we will need to wake up to the many folks around us who are becoming active God seekers instead of complacent survivors.  We have no idea how long this special pressure will last.  We do know that from the standpoint of biblical prophecy, we are running out of time very quickly.  It won’t be long before this offer to this rebellious generation will be withdrawn forever.  Our Savior longs for us to be wide awake to the work and loving sacrifice that will draw our tormentors out of their fear and pain into God’s loving eternal family.  It’s true that we will soon experience the reality of our salvation as we enter our eternal home, but our Savior longs for us to bring as many family members with us as possible who will know him because we were awake and watching for the opportunities that God had planned for us along the way.  Are we there yet?  Almost.  May the Lord help us to see the lost and dying along the road as well as looking forward to our eternal destination.

Romans 13:10 Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law. 11 This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.
