Good morning,
I
like being a human being. I know that there are some challenging parts
of this life here on earth, but most days the benefits far outweigh the
drawbacks. The beauty of our Earth, the complexity of our bodies and
the ability for us to communicate with each other and our Creator gives
our lives a wonderful sense of meaning and adventure. Our Creator also
decided that when he made us he wanted us to be able to be a part of the
process of making decisions that have eternal outcomes. All of us, from
a very young age, are constantly involved in making plans and God
wanted it that way. Before sin became an issue, the Lord gave Adam the
responsibility of naming the animals and taking care of the Garden of
Eden. What sin did was to take us out of the joyful loop of planning
things in our world as part of God’s bigger plan. Satan’s lie ended the
sense of fulfillment and enjoyment God had given them and replaced it
with fear, self will and frustration.
God really does want us to
make our own plans, with the understanding that only God has enough
information to lead us to the right answer for the problem we are trying
to solve with our plans. What God longs for is for us to willingly
submit each of our plans to him and then listen, wait, pray and
willingly change our minds about how our plans will become one with
his. Only then will we have the right answer for that particular
situation. The same is true for when we are making plans for what we
should do next. Since God has already developed a Heaven based plan for
each day of our lives (Psalm 139:16), only he is really equipped to
Shepherd us step by step through the days, weeks, months and years of
our lives. If we are open and willing to bring all of our plans to him
and ask him for direction, we will know something of the meaning and
adventure that made life and time such a fulfilling and joyful adventure
for Adam and Eve before they disobeyed. Our sin nature resists this
joy and freedom with all its strength, but if we believe the lie that we
are in charge of our lives, we will never know the song of the soul set
free.
Proverbs 16:1 We can make our own plans, but the LORD gives the right answer.
Proverbs 16:9 We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps.
