Good morning,
What’s God waiting for? There are times in world history and in our personal histories that it seems that there is lots of confusion but no resolution. We all long for some sign of meaningful direction in our lives or in the world around us so that we can get on with life. If we are God’s kids we know that we have the right to ask our Heavenly Father for help with our problems. We do pretty well with that promise, but then we turn our fears into plans and then begin to expect our Lord to become our servant and get the job done in a timely manner. When it seems that he hasn’t responded to our reasonable request in what we think of as a reasonable time, the Enemy does his best to get us self focused and fall into a black hole called despair. Why Lord, why are you taking so long, becomes the sad song of our daily lives. It seems that we are stuck in heavy mud and no amount of praying, or prayer and fasting, gets the job done. Our Enemy keeps whispering, “This will never get straightened out.”
Our Lord’s answer to this darkness and despair is for us to cancel our plans and just wait for him to do what needs to be done in his time and in his way. If we are going to stand on the Rock and have the freedom he offers we must learn to trust him with all of our hearts and abandon our own understanding. He knows what he is doing and he longs for us to look for what he wants us to do while we are waiting for him to deal with what we think is the most important thing at this point in time. We know that we have actually believed his direction, “Just wait” when we start to sing songs of praise from our grateful hearts again. And what is the waiting all about? Our Father wants us to show the people around us what amazing things he can do when we are living out our faith in the face of unanswered problems. People are watching us for some believable sign that the God we claim to believe is trustworthy enough for them to put their trust in him as well. May the Lord help us to genuinely trust the Lord who never makes a mistake in his timing of his solutions to our confusion.
Psalm 40:1 I waited patiently for the LORD to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. 2 He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. 3 He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the LORD.
