Our God still reigns

Good morning,

Politics and power have been part of the human scene since the beginning of our creation.  Now that we in America are being bombarded with candidates who want our votes and those of you in other parts of the world are dealing with various other aspects of the “Spring” that keeps growing and going on, we are all faced with a reality that is not going to go away.  I have many friends here who have decided that since the system seems to be in control of things, there is no reason to vote or pay any attention to what is going on.  They say that since God is in control of all that’s going on, they are free to focus on their own lives and not worry about all the stuff that’s out there.  There is no doubt that God is the one who has the final control of all the events in our world and in our individual lives.  It is also true that the prince of this world has done a great job of turning peoples hearts away from the God who has given them life and keeps them alive.  But it is also true that our Savior has planned for us to be here now, and he has told us that we are to be salt and light in this dark and despair filled world.

I think that Daniel’s declaration of praise that he gave us after God gave him the vision that would save the lives his friends and his fellow government workers is good for us to think about as well.  His king was corrupt,
Daniel’s fellow advisers were empowered by false gods, and the king’s decree was unfair to the whole lot of them.  God had a message for this king and he used one of his own faithful followers to demonstrate in words the wisdom and power that the Creator God had over all of his creation.  Daniel understood that the wisdom of the wise and knowledge of the scholars was a gift of God, and that God wanted him to speak these truths in the face of evil all around them.  Those of us who are in God’s family don’t have Daniel’s position of authority, but we still have the responsibility of communicating with the world around us the truth’s we have been given.  We may not speak with our leaders face to face, but we can still talk to the people around us and share the truths that are involved in our government systems.  Here in America, we can still say something with our vote, even if what we say is ignored.  Our silence when we fail to communicate the wisdom and knowledge God has given us helps our enemy carry out his wicked plans.  May God give each of us his wisdom and knowledge in knowing what to do during these turbulent times.

Daniel 2:20 He said, “Praise the name of God forever and ever, for he has all wisdom and power.  21 He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars.
